Just got the word today, all CNHI papers will be going to a 23-inch web.

Meaning, of course, I will have to alter every style sheet myself because there's no way in holy hell this cheap-ass F-Troop of an outfit is going to send someone in who actually knows that the F they're doing.

    Shit certainly does run downhill...

Oh, by the way, all this happens, "real soon," so I'm told.

F me with a pitchfork.

have a new buddy who works for a cnhi rag. he tells me they had a 43 percent profit margin in 2006 with a $10 million profit. the company still is letting positions go unhired in his newsroom because they're not on track to make 5 percent more in 2007.

the more i hear about these dickheads, the more i shake my head.

A 23-inch tab? Like everyone's going tab? I know the metro in my town is something like 50 inches. Or is that 23 per page, which would be a 46?

Funny how monitors get bigger and newspaper pages get smaller.

Meat: Still broadsheet, 23 per page.

Before long, though, me thinks we'll be reduced to a tab... then a shopper.

    To whom?

Someone who will gut them even more?

Sadly, it seems like (for the most part) it's only the CNHI union shops that function. Otherwise ... forget about it.

CNHI was the owner of my last rag, and it's one of the reasons I left the business. F-ing rag...I was getting paid less at the end of my fourth year than I was when I started there (because of adding a child to the insurance, premiums skyrocketing and no COLA raises).
