Yeah. I'm genuinely interested in the GOP race as a current event.

Do you truly believe that people who think differently than you do so not because they just see things differently, but because they are bad people?

Can you please rephrase your question in English?

It's interesting... I had one friend, who has been one of my best friends since the mid 1980s, while at dinner with me say, "I could never be friends with a republican."

I said, "You do realize, I am a republican and have been since 1994."

He said, "Yeah, but you're not like them."

I said, "OK, then don't generalize. We're not all the same."

We have NOT generally been behaving well and I had to delete a few things on here. We want to let people talk about this - but we'll let the membership decide by its behavior whether that's possible.

Over on the moderator's board, we're running a pool. I'm in the "no" camp.

    Prove me wrong. Please.

    Among my best friends:

Best college friend: Republican (voted for Obama, though).
    Second-best college friend: Moderate Democrat.
    Third-best college friend: Democrat.
    College friend/mentor: Staunch, staunch Republican.
    College friend/mentor 2: Left-leaning independent.
Best high school friend: Indifferent, but a union member.
Other high school friend: Independent union member, but voted for McCain.
    Other high school friend: Republican.
    Other high school friend: Republican.
Post-high school and college friend. Police officer. Republican.

Very mixed bag. My newspaper friends are mostly either Democrats, or, in most cases, independent thinkers who are more interested in NCAA policy than partisan politics.

When I was on Facebook, I had as a "friend" a woman who went to one of the Seven Sisters colleges and was in her early 20s. At one point, Facebook had this application that went around where it put up a pie chart about how many of your friends were Democrat and how many were Republican.

Her total was 98 percent Democrat! Ninety-eight percent!

I couldn't live within that kind of echo chamber, although I realize that many choose to, particularly nowadays.

Can't believe I am quoting Depeche Mode, but for Carlton and Dick:

"People are people, so why should it be
You and I should get along so awfully."

Let's have a 5K for all the GOP candidates.

That is kind of amazing. My best friend is a liberal. My sister is a liberal. My mother is a Kennedy Democrat. Wife is a staunch conservative (not a Republican) while most of my casual friends are Democrats. We never talk politics, which is probably a good thing.
