Wayne did McQ after he turned down Dirty Harry (thought it was too violent) and then saw how much $$$ it raked in for Clint. And McQ was one of his worst movies.

Anyone who thinks John Wayne always played the good guy in Westerns never saw "Red River" or "The Searchers," which was by far his best role and one only he could have pulled off.
He was also a bad guy trying to do a good deed in "Three Godfathers."
Also can't see Clint in "She Wore A Yellow Ribbon" or "Fort Apache" (which also had a great turn by Henry Fonda as an egocentric commanding officer at a time when Wayne and Fonda were still friends).

Watched "The Outlaw Josey Wales" and "Dirty Harry" back-to-back last night on HD Net Movies.

    Eastwood's a beast.
