    High school sports editor

    The Clarion-Ledger, the largest paper in Mississippi, seeks a high school sports editor to oversee statewide coverage. This position entails coordinating, writing and editing of high school sports, with an emphasis on breaking news, thoughtful enterprise, reader engagement and commentary. The job includes evening hours and weekend and holiday work. Applicants must have a bachelor’s degree in journalism or related field and knowledge of digital processes that help our audience connect online, including the creation of photos, videos and use of social media.

    Other duties and expectations:

    § Write regular columns or issue-oriented commentary about high school sports.
    § Beyond print, engage local high school sports fans in conversation, including developing a presence and growing an audience on social media platforms such as Twitter or Facebook.
    - Be the leading source of information for local fans about high school sports issues.
    - Collaborate with the Sports Editor on the coverage of high school sports events, with a focus on collaborating with freelancers and news assistants to deliver round-up style coverage of scores and results. The focus should be fast delivery of results online and digested delivery of results in print.
    - Deliver thoroughly-reported, well-written stories or columns to editors, on deadline.
    - Appear on local radio and television, and at community events, engaging local readers about sports topics and issues.
    - Frequently use alternative story formats for the delivery of news and information (e.g., charticles, lists and other reader-friendly story forms).
    - Maintain daily and enterprise planning budget in collaboration with the Sports Editor, and submit detailed, timely assignments for visuals such as photos, videos, graphics and multimedia interactive.
    - Flexibly adjust schedule to cover breaking news at night and on weekends.

    Rod Walker did an excellent job. Actually had a few yahoos claim he was biased in his reporting. Total BS.
