Leave it to the NY Mets to name their new stadium after a near defunct bank now partly owned by the tax payers.

Teams play Russian roulette with any corporate sponsorship.

That Mets field sponsorship is dead man walking.

When the deal was announced, it seemed to be perfect. A stable American company, which has its HQ in Queens.

Not a startup. Not a strange foreign company which may have ties to the Nazis or Stalin.

I'm guessing it is the largest private employer in Queens. Who knew that they couldn't properly value their mortgage backed holdings?

Department of the Treasury Stadium has a nice ring to it. IRS agents can roam the grounds collecting from the scalpers right on the spot.

Did anyone really think the federal government was really going to allow Citigroup to go under? Naming rights for, say, GM Field would have been a much riskier proposition.

Unless Citi files for Chapter 11 Mets are getting the money.

Here's $60 billion so you can name a stadium because you sunk our country into a recession.

No U.S. auto industry, you can't have $25 billion until you can prove you wont waste it on dumb shit like NAMING STADIUMS!

Our government is so fucked up.

To begin with, it's Citi Field, not that boom would ever let the facts get in the way ...

And as has been mentioned before, the fact the some Citigroup spokeman said over the weekend that the Mets deal is a "priority" part of their marketing strategy is just appalling.

Early word has it that Hank Paulson will be on hand to throw out the first pitch.
