He doesn't have to win popularity contest, Pope, but to affect things in a way that is beneficial to the US (i.e, represent our intyerestes) he has to be able to positively influence people to see things our way. That is what diplomacy is.
The Bush method of diplomacy is we're the U S of fucking A, we're doing it our way and the rest of you can go fuck yourselves. That's gotten us real far.

Yeah, people really want to work with you when you antagonize and bully them.

Give me one example of Bolton bullying people at the UN.

  4. Don't hold your breath. JR is great for asking for citations but awful in providing them.

Mr. Bolton’s relationship with Mr. Annan was also marked by testiness. He repeatedly ducked opportunities offered by reporters to praise or commend Mr. Annan, usually by changing the subject or by saying, as he did on one such occasion last month, “I’ll pass.”

A year ago, Mr. Annan startled Security Council ambassadors at one of their monthly luncheons by chastising Mr. Bolton for trying to “intimidate” him.

Bolton has a history of bullying people. That's a recorded fact. Why should he be any different at the UN.

So nice to see Chris back. He always has so much to offer. You been on a fellate-Rumsfeld sabbatical?

Now that is a weakass argument: He's done it before, so I'm sure he's done it since. He doesn't publicly fellate Kofi Annan, so he's a bully?

Isn't publicly fellating just about all world leaders part of the job description for any diplomat, let alone the top diplomat in the country?

You know, like Rumsfeld did for Saddam back in the day...

No, the job description for a diplomat is to represent his country's best interests. Period.

Not quite as simple as that, Pope. By its very definition, the art of diplomacy is in trying to meet your needs, yes, but while also trying to ensure the needs of others are met, too. It's about finding the balance.

Which is why Tony Blair is at 100 psi, courtesy of Mr. Tuttle.

  11. Peace in our time!

  12. Pope asked you for a concrete example where Bolton bullied someone and you came back with an example where he refused to be quoted kissing Kofi Annan's ass.

Then you spout off about how everyone knows that Bolton is a bully. If it is a recorded fact - cite one of the examples. Otherwise shut your gob.
