Chicago school bans lunches brought from home

    Bierocks are like rolls stuffed with ground beef, onions and cabbage. A "meat pocket", as wikipedia explains. They're German.

    It really surprised me the first time I realized bierocks were such a regional food here in the United States. You can get them all over Kansas, where I grew up, obviously even in the decidedly unimaginative school lunches. They're not ever present like hamburgers or anything, but a lot of cafes and the like in small towns will serve them. I've known other people though, foodies even, who'd never heard of them, let alone had some.

    Yeah, Pilot just got us caught up on bierocks. Now it's the Runza.
