True story:

During one holi-daze season of my misspent youth, the extended 'Beat clan watched A Charlie Brown Christmas following a nightmarish day of lugging shopping bags for my mom, aunts and grandmother. It's years of X-Mas seasons and Thanksgivings and Easters with this crew of drunken derelicts that has made me anti-any sort of family get together/any sort of holiday season glee.

During the show, Linus looks at the tree and offers, "It's not such a bad little tree." At that point, my grandmother said, "Oh, yes it is. If your fathers brought home a tree that looked like that, I'd beat them all with a frying pan."

It's apropos of nothing, I just felt like sharing.
