Can Bonds become another Ali?

The most stark difference, to me, is the reason for the controversy. Bonds is controversial because it is widely held he cheated. He wasn't especially likeable even before that. Ali, on the other hand, was controversial because of his audacity, and then came his refusal to submit to the draft. The next time Bonds stands up for a larger issue than himself will be the first.

I tend to think there will never be another Ali. But Tiger Woods can come the closest. He'll never have to make the moral choice that Ali made with Vietnam, so he'll never have his career threatened in that way. But as far as being the world's most dominant athlete combined with making significant social improvements in society, yeah, Tiger has that ability.

And the notion of Bonds being an Ali would be laughable if it wasn't insulting to Ali.
