Reached for comment, Kim Jong Il labeled Calcavecchia's achievement "amateurish" in nature.

But that's only 6.85 birdies in the US.

Granted, the course was playing about as easy as any course can, with the greens marshmellow soft after all the rains and the pins in very good positions. But still nine birdies IN A ROW takes a nice combination of luck and skill.

I've always liked Calc. Saw him win in Vancouver back in 2005 when he had one birdie the entire final round and kept saving par after par to hang onto the lead. He's 49 now but can still play, as witnessed by two good rounds at Turnberry last week and now this little streak.

Doesn't count. He didn't birdie all of them together on the front nine, or all of them together on the back nine.
