Herein lies the problem with every political thread -- partisan people have no ability to look beyond their biases and party loyalty in order to have a discussion so they always break down to a "well our side might have done this, but your side did worse...."

This isn't a question about Pelosi's policies and politics, it was about her leadership and her ability to move shit forward and she has been a disaster in that area by ANY measure, as has Harry Reid. Like Newsweek said, these two incompetents have managed to get congress's approval ratings to fall below that of President Bush, which is saying something.

And that being said, anyone that argues that Newt Gingrich was not an effective speaker of the house, particularly in this first three years in the role is not being honest with themselves.

You don't have to like the man or his politics or believe in what he stood for, but he got shit done and he did what he promised he'd do during the so-called Republican revolution.

Again, the question was about leadership, not politics, but too many people in these threads can't ever see past their own politics to have an honest discussion about, well, politics.

 

Preach on zags. And as you do, the liberals will counter with criticism of what he did, mindful as always, that it's not what you do, it's that you have the power and the other guy doesn't.

 

Still, I will take not getting shit done over screwing everything up, (which is what the Republican president and congress did the previous six years).

Screwing what up? What is left to screw up? We've already screwed the pooch as a country, starting in the 1930's with the New Deal and then into the so-called "great society" and then to the HMO act of the early 1970's. The whole damn thing is FUBAR --- What else can be done to screw this thing up?
