By far the best work of a screen actor's life

Watching the Monk marathon, seeing Ted Levine play the police chief, getting freaked out every time....

Levine so exceeded anything else in his career as Buffalo Bill in Silence of the Lambs.

Though not quite to the same extent, David Strathairn did the same in Good Night and Good Luck.

    Any other nominees?

Good Night, And Good Luck was the first thing that came to mind. Probably because I bought the DVD the other day.

Speaking of those who were on TV shows with Tony Shaloub ....

    Thomas Haden Church in Sideways.

Also, Judy Garland in Wizard of Oz ... Mark Hamill in Star Wars ... Henry Thomas in E.T.

Tom Berenger in Platoon. Even though I love Major League, he was excellent.

I still can't watch Monk without screaming "Silence of the Lambs" lines at the TV every time Levine shows up ...

"Put the fucking lotion in the basket..."

"Are you about a size 13?"

"It puts the lotion on the skin or else it gets the hose again..."

Buffalo Bill: Don't hurt my dog
Cathering Martin: Don't you make me hurt your dog
Buffalo Bill: Hey, you don't know what pain is.

I can understand the anti-Costner sentiment, to a point ...

Seems like Field of Dreams made his profile higher than it should have been.

But if you've never seen "Fandango," the cult classic from '84 in which Costner plays the wise-cracking college kid in Austin, Texas, during the height of the Vietnam war ... give it a try.

Even if Marvin J. McIntyre's stoner pilot -- ''you don't mind if I fire up, do you," he asks a terrified Judd Nelson, who's about to hop out of the rickety, straw-filled plane with Hendrix posters and the like, with a faulty parachute, it turns out -- threatens to steal the film.
