Bush: No warrant? No problem, go ahead and open that mail anyway.

I really can't believe this hasn't been posted somewhere by now, but I searched through several pages and didn't see it. So maybe it slipped through.

Piece of advice for everyone: If you're served with a warrant for anything in the coming weeks, hold on to it. Apparently, the warrant is quickly becoming an outdated, rarely needed piece of law enforcement. It's sure to be a collector's item soon.

I don't want to put a damper on the less serious responses, because I do enjoy them, but is this not rather damned depressing? I mean, the president of the US has just said that it's perfectly acceptable for government law enforcement to open our mail without first obtaining a warrant to do so.

To make it even worse, he used this shady-ass "signing statement" bullshit to do so, and completely reversed the effects of the bill to which the signing statement was attached.

    I'm sorry, but that's just unbelievably ... un-American.

Since I was too lazy to read the story and it is late, my mind didn't connect that it was now legal for all law enforcement to read our mail.
When are people going to realize our country is quickly turning into 1984 and Big Brother and all the other doomsday books we all have read?

I think the signing statements are bullshit. If it's that important to him, veto the damned bill like a real man.

Does he think this will actually stand up in court?
