So Vulture posted an essay on the Stones song, which I thought was worth discussing. Is this like the Redskins, in that it's something abhorrently racist that's been accepted for so long it's just been accepted until people really started to think about it? Or maybe there are artistic merits to the lyrics? Is it a sexist and racist song or as song about sexism and racism?

Let's Revisit the Rolling Stones' “Brown Sugar” -- Vulture

It's like "Sex Type Thing" by the Stone Temple Pilots or "Atlantic City" by Bruce Springsteen. It's sung by a character.

    There. That took two sentences.

If it was about hobbits and warlocks, there would be a 30-page thread here about how amazing it is. #Zep

That always would have been my take before reading the article and finding out Jagger and Richards have done things to tone it down and semi apologize or say they didn't put any thought into it.

Maybe a better question is does the song offend anybody here and if so why?

Isn't it also a double entendre for a kind of heroin? I've heard that.

Yes, let's ruin everything we used to enjoy by overanalyzing it.

Recall a quote from way back from Keith when someone asked him why they named the song Brown Sugar.

His response was along the lines of that they couldn't get it away with calling it Black Pussy.

Mr. Richards, a man far ahead of his time.

I've heard that song probably three million times and I still can't decipher most of the lyrics.

    Sounds great, though.

Wait till the author hears the line from Some Girls :
"Black girls just wanna get fucked all night
I just don't have that much jam"

    or The Harlem Shuffle lyrics:
    Now take it kinda slow
With a whole lot of soul
    Don't move it too fast
    Just make it last

You scratch just like a monkey
    Yeah you do real cool
You slide it to the limbo
Yeah how low can you go?

The Indiana Family Faith Council wants to outlaw Afternoon Delight.

While the sun is still out? Disgusting.
