Breaking News: American Airlines plane to make emergency landing in Miami

Watching CNN right now and apparently the nose gear, which is instrumental in steering the plane, is malfunctioning. The plane is due to do a low flyover of the tower so they can do a visual of the gear. Right now, I think it's in a holding pattern over Miami.

Now they're saying it's just the nose-gear door and the "expert" on the phone is indicating it's not a major emergency, although the the newscasters seem really tense about this. This is probably much ado about nothing.

Front nose gear looks fully down.

I love how the 'experts' think stuff like that is nothing serious.

Let's see them say that while they're stuck on that plane.

Yeah, I got tense just watching the plane make a low fly-by pass. Ugh.

  7. Has anyone else ever wondered how'd they react if they were in a situation like that? I mean, it's not a nosedive , but it's as tense as it gets. Do you think you'd be freaking out; the guy/girl reassuring everyone it'll be ok; cracking jokes?

I'd like to think I'd keep a cool head, but probably not.

I despise flying, but I usually am not a panicker. I'd probably just be very quiet. A calm exterior, but my insides would be melting.

I'd probably be asking for another drink.

Another is in the singular. I'm going multiple minatures by now.

I've been on a plane that was 10 minutes into a flight and we started to get smoke in the cabin. It wasn't a heavy, unable-to-breathe kind of smoke, but the smell left no doubt that something was wrong. Much to my surprise, everyone was quite calm — quiet, but calm. We received a priority to hand back at the airport and it turned out to be nothing major.
