Brad Stevens takes Celtics job

If Sullinger comes back and if Green plays consistently, and if Rondo is healthy, they have a chance for the 8th seed. Bradley needs to stay healthy and progress as a scorer. He is going to have to play 38-40 minutes and score in double digits. It seems that 6 of the 8 teams from last year are locks, with only the Bucks and Celtics position up for grabs.

If Stevens gets them to the playoffs next year, he will have failed the franchise tremendously. His whole job should be to lose with dignity and not outright reveal that's the franchise is tanking its ass off.

The six-year contract at least demonstrates the intent for patience. Ainge doesn't expect nor want to win the next few seasons, so Stevens can work through some tough times.

Larry Brown would like you to kiss his championship ring. The NBA one. Not the NCAA one.

Not expecting to win I can buy. But not wanting to win? What coach/GM/owner/whatever doesn't want to win?

Don't wanna get scooped by BleacherReporter or YahooSports or any of the CitizenJourno writers who spin the media machine's wheels these days. Piggy-back city!

Larry Brown doesn't count. He had 6 1/2 years of successful pro coaching experience before he ever coached a game at the collegiate level. Then he coached two more winning seasons with the Nets before he went to Kansas.

You know, if he does not like the taste of Boston, Duke, UNC and Syracuse might all be opening up in a few years...

    a) see albert77 above.

    b) Larry Brown has coached 2573 professional games (2338 reg. season and 235 playoff), and 273 college games. That works out precisely perfectly that 90% (.904) of the games he has coached have been pro games. He is a pro coach, not a college coach. End of discussion.

    c) Also, he "won" his NBA title primarily due to the fact of the massively-superior opponent tanking due to the petulant selfishness and immaturity of one of its superstars. Basically any decent junior high coach could have won that title, just by not fucking it up.

    d) Of course, any decent junior high coach could have won the gold medal in Athens too, but Sunshine Larry did manage to fuck THAT one up.

(While we're at it, he won his NCAA title through egregrious cheating. Woo Hoo.)

Maybe Larry Brown can take the Butler job???

Well, those 6-7-8 playoff berths in each conference every year are the soft underbelly of the playoff field -- you really don't have to be very good to get one of those 7 or 8 seeds. Which is shown every year when most (no, not all, but most) 7 and 8 seeds get whacked out of the first round quickly.

It certainly appears the Celtics will be bad for a few years, but there are some other real bad teams in the East, too.
