Yet, at the same time, what prevents the paper from cutting your job anyways, and claim it's because of the economy?

Heck, with the way the newspaper industry is going, any place that would fire you for trying to get out ain't worth working for.

Back to the subject, if there's no agreement in writing that he couldn't look elsewhere, BC will have to pay Jags his contract. If Jags had gone to the Jets, then BC would have a case for breach of contract.

This longtime UVa fan is praying they go with Spaziani as coach.

I certainly hope that DeFilippo won't be hiring head coaches away from other schools, in any other sport, like ever. Gotta protect the sanctity of a contract you know.

Richard Blumenthal, the state attorney general, returned to Rockville Superior Court last Tuesday to file a second lawsuit in the battle between the Big East and the Atlantic Coast Conference for member schools.

The latest lawsuit on behalf of the University Connecticut and three other Big East universities was prompted by an announcement last weekend by Boston College that it would be following the University of Miami and Virginia Tech in joining the A.C.C.

UConn and the other plaintiffs -- Pittsburgh, West Virginia and Rutgers -- already have a suit pending against Miami, which along with Virginia Tech, accepted an A.C.C. invitation last spring. Mr. Blumenthal said he hopes the two lawsuits will be consolidated.

He said the action taken Tuesday was against Boston College; its athletic director, Gene DeFilippo and the A.C.C.

''The reason these lawsuits are critically important to Connecticut are UConn spent tens of millions of dollars on a new stadium and to upgrade its football program,'' Mr. Blumenthal said. ''There has been substantial damage to our state by the illegal scheme of these schools and the A.C.C. to destroy the Big East.''

He said that action was taken against Mr. DeFilippo because he allegedly misused information about the Big East's future plans as chairman of the Big East's athletic directors committee and misled Big East officials regarding the school's intention of staying in the conference.

Mr. Blumenthal said that Mr. DeFilippo had ''reassured UConn and the other Big East members about continued allegiance and loyalty.''

Mr. Blumenthal said that the plaintiffs were seeking financial compensation in the hundreds of millions of dollars caused by the possible loss of broadcast and other revenues associated with a devaluation of the Big East, and are also seeking a court order stopping any other wrongdoing.

Boston College did not return a phone call seeking comment.

I mentioned it earlier in the thread. There are some very important differences here. For one thing, it seems like Jagodzinski was up front about the whole thing. I don't remember seeing anything about him hiding the fact that he was interviewing elsewhere. If he tried, he did a damn poor job of it.

Also, he was not going to a competitor. Since Rodriguez was going to another college program, that put him in conflict with WVU in recruiting. That would not have been an issue with Jagodzinski had he gotten the job with the Jets.

Rodriguez did hide the fact that he was taking the Michigan job. In fact, he actually started calling players he had been recruiting for WVU and tried to get them to come with him to Michigan before he had told WVU he was leaving. That is how the story came out. Terrelle Pryor got one of those calls from Rodriguez and told a reporter.

Think about that. Rodriguez was still West Virginia's coach. The season was still going on (this was between the end of the regular season and WVU's bowl game). And not only was he actively recruiting for Michigan, he was using ties he had cultivated as WVU's coach to try to steal players away from WVU.

Then he tried to weasel out of the buyout clause in the contract that he had signed.

Those last two points in particular are why I have a much bigger issue with Rodriguez than I do with Jagodzinski.

Translation -- OutofPlace is a Pittsburgh guy and he hates Rich Rodriguez.

Rodriguez did what every coach in America does almost every time the situation arises -- he took a better job.

Is Brady Hoke a scum for leaving between the season and the bowl game? Was Brian Kelly two years ago, when he coaches his new team in a bowl while his old team played in a different bowl?

Dunno... OOP could be a Michigan guy too and still hate Rich Rodriguez... :)

Seriously, not everyone who was a Michigan fan marched lockstep withthe way he came in... it was sleazy

Typical zag. A failure in reading comprehension and a lack of knowledge and you are covering it all with bluster.

Go back and read the thread regarding Rodriguez when he left WVU for Michigan. I never cared about him one way or the other until the incident with Pryor, which was disgraceful.

You think that is ok for a coach to be working at one school and actively recruiting for another one? You think it is ok for him to sign a contract with a buyout clause, then refuse to pay the buyout until he was forced to?

If my motivation was Pittsburgh fanboyishness, wouldn't I love Rodriguez for dicking over WVU? Try applying some logic, Zag.

According to the WWL, Steve Logan won't be back as OC for BC next season. Good for Logan.
