Blizzard to hit Kansas

    Three fun Kansas stories:

First, I remember a New Year's eve in Topeka (maybe 1981) where the temperature hit 68. By midnight, the first snowflake fell. By the following morning the first eight of 17 inches had fallen.

In 1984 (hey, this latest blizzard fell on the 25th anniversary!), Topeka was hit by a wicked ice storm that coated our lawn furniture with five (5!) inches of ice. Trees fell, of course. Lots of dead birds and squirrels, too.

Lastly, my high school was hit by a tornado my senior year ... the week before Thanksgiving.

Kansas weather. Love it or leave it ... I chose leave it.
