Jeanette Lee was one of those odd staples of the ESPN2 of my childhood, before they just made it the channel that show Sportscenter and talking head shows for 24 hours instead. Per the Post and some other sites, she now has stage four ovarian cancer, unfortunately. Prognosis is dire, and there is a GoFundMe setup to support her kids. She had to retire in 2010, apparently, because of scoliosis, and the pain from that and resulting surgeries masked the cancer. Just bad times all around.

Reading the comments, the story one woman told of her tipsy husband winning a raffle and getting to play against Lee in the 90s in a bar is a lot of fun.

Hoping for the best for the Black Widow.

Met and interviewed her in 2017 and she’s somehow more stunning in person and also one of the nicest damned people you’ll ever meet. She told me at one point she was on 27 different medications for her different ailments.

In one of Jim Murray's columns (about his then-ailing wife), he said, "the saddest four words in the English language are, 'the cancer has metastasized.' "

Good nugget in that story about how she shot pool with guests at an ESPN holiday party in exchange for $2,000 and the networking opportunity. She (and her agent) really maximized what she could get out of being a pool star.
