And put aside the Philly fans . . . the bulk of the Philly Whiz Kids from the early 50's were a bunch
of racist rednecks. Plenty of low-class to go around . . .

. . . and I remember being in the Comiskey grandstand one fine afternoon in the 60's, heard mentioned how it might be advantageous if the Sox picked up Ed Charles to play third base, and heard the response:

"Nah, there are enough ******s on this team."

    It's broadly depressing.

The first time I ever heard the n-word was in New England.

And I have little use for Lange, but in the written responses to the other's letters in the current
ESPN the Magazine, Lange wipes the floor with Leary . . . not that that's a shock.

The Bruins actually had a black player more than a year-and-a-half before the Red Sox did.

Willie O'Ree debuted on January 18, 1958. Pumpsie Green's first game was on July 21, 1959.

The latest Pew study found that whites earn 20 times more than the typical black family. So the percentage of blacks among the hoity-toity is gonna be pretty low.

My grandpa used to use it all the time. Drove me nuts.

Only had vision in one eye.

Tremendous skater, but his shot couldn't break a pane of glass.

Slightly off topic, but only slightly. I saw way more African Americans attending the two Masters I covered than at most Boston sports events. The club must make sure Augusta's alternative black power structure gets its share of tickets.

Just so we can make sure we group your whole state/city/town/team in this, where was he from?
