Ragu, there's a big difference between the federal government bailing out the auto industry and saving, at least temporarily, tens of thousands of existing jobs at the height of a devastating recession and a city that's teetering on bankruptcy handing out $650 million to a billionaire professional sports team owner and a league on the promise of jobs and increased revenue.

Especially when said league is voluntarily suspending operations right now.

If the State paid the Union workers directly their wages for the period of time construction would take, and didn't actually build anything, the taxpayers would be better off.

And as long the right-wing wants to end discretionary spending, how about cutting price supports for big agriculture. And writeoffs for failed oil and gas production. If the oil companies dig wells with no results, thats tough shit for them, the taxpayers should not subsidize their failures with tax relief, write-offs or credits.

Meeshigan senate is split 25-12, Rep to Dem. Vote on this was 27-11 in favor, so before anyone bitches about liberals handing out money, you might want to look at the votes. Just sayin'.

Why the hell is the state senate so hot and bothered to do this. Did they think he was going to move them to Toledo? Let some suburb on the make build an arena if they want.

I didn't say it was liberals handing out money.

Each side hands out money to their own special interests.

If you don't like it, the way to handle it is to stop it -- all. Shrink government. Don't give them your money, an let the spend it as they see fit.

    Instead, we keep growing government.

Spending $650,000,000.00 to pump $1,900,000.00 into the economy every year doesn't seem like a good investment. Maybe that's Republican math, George W Bush style.

And of course in 15 years that building will magically need $120 million in improvements.

Theoretically, amputation is an effective treatment for a hangnail, but I wouldn't recommend that either. Seriously though, this needs to go in the mother thread.

Except the difference is, one side keeps wanting to grow government so a billionaire can make more money.
