Maybe her illness was known among NFL insiders, but I had heard nothing, which makes this news stunning:

While it wasn't well-publicized, there was some awareness of what was going on with Kaye.

RIP. Hopefully, she'll join Kay Yow somewhere up there ...

How long had she been ill? Was that why he left the Steelers when he did?

Remember the rumours of how Cowher left coaching because he was leaving his wife and wanted to keep his income low? Seem a bit heartless now.

Probably the reason he kept turning down jobs in the last few years.

    RIP.

Sad. And scary for those of us who've neglected to be sun smart at various times.

Certainly seems to explain a lot regarding Cowher's choices in recent years. Very sad news.

When he left I remember hearing that he had "very serious family issues"

I had no idea what that specifically meant, although I'm sure plenty of people did.

    RIP.

The first thing I can think is, he has his next coaching gig by Jan. 15.

Unless of course he wants to spend more time with his kids.
