Whoever mentioned LaRue Martin is brilliant. Might be the worst draft choice in the history of pro sports.

But if he's 1A, Ryan Leaf is 1B and Tony Mandarich is 1C....

Good one, see also the Detroit Red Wings. They are the president trophy winners almost every season then collapse in the playoffs.

Man, thanks for stabbing that dagger deep into my heart. I still lament that day (I was so pissed, I burned a hole in the floor of my rental townhouse because I threw my cigarette down and stomped on it).

Any votes for the U.S. team in the World Baseball silliness?

Nike can pick athletes . . . but as has been repeatedly demonstrated, character is clearly not part of their equation.

    - Aliki Smith (shouldn't have been drafted No. 3 overall, but still...)
    - Shawn Bradley (Jack Ramsey said he'd "revolutionize the game.")
    - California/Anaheim Angels (1982. 1986, 1995)
    - Curtis Enis, Blair Thomas, Ki-Jana Carter (obviously, in the pros)
    - Derek Bell (in Pittsburgh)
    - Barry Bonds (playoffs before 2002 WS)
    - Larry Brown (in NY)
    - Mark Davis, Darren Dreifort, Denny Neagle signings.
