The show gets under way at 8:43 p.m. Eastern Standard Time (or 5:43 Pacific Standard Time), when the moon passes into the Earth's dark inner shadow known as the umbra.

At first, it will look as if someone has taken a bite out of the left side of the moon. Earth's shadow will continue to creep across the lunar surface, with the "bite" becoming increasingly bigger.

By 10:01 p.m. EST, the entire moon will be gobbled up by the shadow so that no direct light from the sun can reach its surface.

Don't want to miss it. Next one's in three years.

What about a total eclipse of the heart?

Must be a SportsJournalists.com record for a threadjack.

However, it WAS a hanging curveball.

Damn, I figured only 3 posts in, I'd have a shot at tossing out that gem. No such luck.

And what's with the date format? US Americans long ago rejected the metric system and we'll do the same to anyone trying to slip the international date format past us.

I was wondering when someone was gonna pick up on that.

To the rest of the world, it would have been "11/9"

Damn immigrants. First they take our jobs, now they're screwing with our dates. Send 'em all back!

If I recall my Weather Channel correctly, a good chunk of the U.S. will miss this one. Snow in the northeast, clouds and rain down south. I just bought a pair of binoculars the other day, and I won't even get to use them for this. Guess I'll have to spy on the neighbors instead.

I think it's supposed to be fairly clear in Toronto tonight.

Well, you can all watch it on CNN tomorrow. :)

That format is also used by the military, even the US American military ...
