you mean MVP gibson who hit .290 with 25 HR and 79 RBI that year ... yikes. dude, look at that team's roster ... they were a shitty, shitty team. and i'm a freakin' dodger fan. they just had a bunch of guys who happened to have the best year of their careers in the same year ... well, except for gibson.

1982 Brazil soccer team at the World Cup, possibly the best national team ever, from any country. Lost because they didn't have their regular keeper.

1976 Steelers. Even most Steelers admit this was their best team. In final nine weeks they allowed 28 points total.

This thread is making me think of the Missing Rings shows that NFL Network did a few years ago. Someone should make a regular series out of the concept. So many good stories about teams that came close but lost the chance to win championships.

I always used the Oilers in Madden '92 and '93. Caught a lot of wreck on people because they couldn't stop the offense.

The 1985-86 Duke Blue Devils. Went 37-3 back when the ACC was, well, the ACC.

College basketball you could do a fantasy 64 team bracket of "almost" teams

1997 Kansas, with Jacques Vaughn and Paul Pierce, who were #1 most of the year and had the misfortune of running into really good Arizona team seeded #4.

Houston 1983 and 1984 with Hakeem and Drexler probably top the college list, 1984 North Carolina with Jordan and Perkins right there too.

1975 IU, who most fans think was better then the 1976 team.

Maryland team that lost ACC championship to NC State back when you had to win conference championship to go to NCAA Tournament. (think it was 1974--they changed the rule basically over this)

The 1981 Charger team that lost to the Bengals in the AFC Championship team. Oh what an offense, Fouts, Joiner, Chandler, Winslow, Little Train James, Muncie, maybe even Jefferson? Big Hands Johnson on D. But had to play Cin in the -20 in the championship game. (Would have lost to the 49ers in the Super Bowl anyways :))
