I'm not sure what type of response this thread will incite, but I'm wondering who you think is the best sportswriter in the US. If you want to throw a few names out there to do a top five, I'd be happy to hear it. (I'm going with Joe Posnanski as the best, obviously, followed by Gary Smith, Wright Thompson and Liz Merrill.)

Haven't we been down this road at this site, oh, 100 times?

So what if we do it for the 101st time? I would hope there are enough newcomers coming to this site on a regular basis who haven't been down this path before. What's the harm, for cryin' out loud?

    Either dkphxf or clutchcargo.

Everyone else is fighting for second. Uh, third.

    Except Devin. He's awesome too.

This could be fine, and interesting, if people cited their reasoning, thoughts and sentiments behind any picks rather than just throwing out lists of names.

Tell us why. That's always important in journalism, right?

My google alert just went off. No idea why. I don't see my name here. Yet.

Pretty sure this qualifies for post of the year candidacy. Or not.
