    On the serious tip, Dave Grohl deserves some mention having played professionally as both guitarist and drummer in two well-regarded bands.

    The Beastie Boys started out as a post-punk band and then did OK with that rap fad. ;)

    Finally, I've been listening to Wax and Herbal T, a pair of rappers originally from Baltimore/DC, now in San Diego. When you consider that they play guitar and bass, respectively, while rapping, I find it pretty impressive.

    I'm fairly sure Grohl played every instrument on the first Foo Fighters album during the recording, then found the band before the tour. He was good in Nirvana, and he's great now. Also did work for Queens of the Stoneage.
