There are some who believe that Congress wants gas prices to rise because they believe (probably correctly) that it will help Obama get elected.

Offshore drilling, which is hugely expensive without producing any oil, takes more like 15 years to get oil to market.

Yep, what's bad for the country is good for regaining power.

I still think we should just invade Venezuela, but that's just me...

Is this like some who believed that Congress helped gas prices drop two years ago because they believed it will help Republicans get elected/stay in office?

The biggest mistake simpletons make when assuming we can drill ourselves out of this problem is the lack of understanding of the oil market.

Why do people assume that if we drill more and produce more oil, the other factors that affect the price of oil will remain static?

How does our drilling oil offset the growing demand in China and India. How does it offset speculators and the weak American dollar? How does it address the instability in the Middle East.

There are no easy solutions. There are no solutions.

Politicians aren't understanding the deal. THERE. IS. NO. OIL. SHORTAGE.

There is plenty of supply worldwide. Hell, we have tankers stacked up at our ports because we can't refine it fast enough. Nobody is short of oil demand. Not even India and China, who combined is still dwarfed by our own thirst for oil.

There is definitely a bottleneck at the refinery level, but that doesn't explain the ridiculous prices for crude. Something else does.

If such a thing did occur, Oz, how dare they? Helping reduce prices? Who the hell do they think they are?

The inability of some people to grasp basic, simple facts is truly depressing.
