The Best Cities thread got me thinking about cpllege towns. The places that if not for the school would probably be just a little more than a wide place in the road.

Here are mine in no particular order:

Athens -- okay, it's at the top for a reason
    Charlottesville
    Tuscaloosa
    Gainesville
    Boone
    State College
    Chapel Hill
    Blacksburg

    Charlottesville.

    Blacksburg.

College Avenue in State College is a pretty cool Saturday night.

Fuck Bozeman . . . damned bunch of murdering freaks!

And the Haute isn't really a college town. There's a college there, but it doesn't dominate the town like the colleges in the towns I listed do.

    Madison
    Greeley
much to my chagrin, South Bend
West Lafayette is dominated by Purdue, but it's not great

I'm sure I'll think of some more

    Wow.

I liked Athens, Ohio, Morgantown and (hate to admit it) Ann Arbor.

Yeah, add Ann Arbor on my list, too. Pretty nice.

    Yup, I remembered some:

    Fort Collins
    Lubbock
    Champaign
Tucson, even though the city doesn't revolve around the school
