I don't know what they knew. He worked at my former shop for years before anyone knew his past, which came out when he was arrested and we read about it in the competition.
He was sports editor at his latest stop, so he was often around kids.
When I was sports editor, the publisher suggested I send this guy, who was a reporter/desker at the time, to cover a sporting event when we were short bodies. I told him they'd have to fire me before I would assign him to cover a prep event.

Microfilm does not lie. It is your friend.

  4. A letter to the editor from an Alan Smithee would help, too.

Anonymous potshots or e-mails might do the trick, but just as likely the editor will just forget about 'em.

If you really want them to pay attention, sending them actual clips documenting his escapades would probably do it.

I guess it depends on how badly you really want this guy to be exposed to the whole world as a vile pervert. If that's what you really want, probably the best thing would be to let them go ahead and run their "he was a sweetheart of a guy" tribute page, figuring some victim or family member of a victim will see it, go ballistic, and rip the cover off, probably to some competing media outlet, who will likely be happy to blow it sky-high.

It's good to know employers conduct urine tests to make sure you don't smoke pot, but nobody bothers to check on your potential criminal record.
