    It never ceases to amaze me how many columnists and writers grew up worshipping Lincicome.

    His Chicago stuff was brilliant.

    From what I hear, he had a reputation in Denver for phoning it in big time.

    The biggest problem with the Chicago Tribune was that they never found an adequate replacement for Bernie. I always felt he could connect with Chicago readers better than any of the people they tried to replace him with (Holley, Downey, Isaacson, Morrissey etc...) While they're all great writers, they couldn't connect with Chicago readers like Bernie could.

    I agree he was a bad fit in Denver. He replaced a columnist (Kravitz) who was a real workhorse and he never produced the kind of copy that a lead columnist needs to. There is no questioning his brilliance though.
