The appeal of Trump for conservatives is that even though they might only agree with him on 65 or 70 percent of issues, they believe he will fight for and actually do something about those issues. As opposed to the many Republicans who campaigned as conservatives and said they were 100 percent on board with conservative issues but, once actually elected, delivered little -- and worse, are perceived to have not even fought for those issues.

The idea is 65 percent is way better than, say, 10 or 20 percent.

The last thing this country needs is a president who craves power.

    They all crave power.

Edit: With the exception, perhaps, of George Washington.

Yeah, that's my point. You don't run for president (or any elected office above dog catcher) if you don't crave power.

I am petrified by a political movement demanding absolute surrender from the other side, especially when a percentage of that movement brews a noxious blend of xenophobia, eschatology and cynicism... all stirred by an assault rifle.

What you're supposed to do is work with your political opposition to ensure that that opposition gets to do what it wants. Then, in the next election, the voters will reward you for doing right by the country and will vote you and your party in. That's the way it used to work before one side became a bunch of meany-pants boogerheads.
