wow, all this talk over, well, nothing.

soccer sucks. once 98 percent of americans reach the age of 10, they, and their mothers, realize soccer sucks and both begin acting as if they never had anything to do with the sport ... much like a heroine habit.

this will do nothing more than bankrupt the team, which will bleed over to the league, which will hopefully bring an end to the stupidity named "pro soccer."

funny thing is, though, nobody will notice.

No one noticing, yet it's all over the place yesterday -- all the news channels, all the sports channels, CNBC.

Boomer, after further review, you're right -- this is more about bidniss. The fact that it even cracked CNBC says something about that. Gretzky was a far bigger name in the sports realm, while Beckham is worth far more marketing-wise at this point.

TP, if you knew anything about endorsement cash in the soccer world, you'd be able to put two and two together and know that 99 percent of the coin probably is coming from adidas, et al.

Is Beckham that marketable considering that soccer is widely popular in the ever-growing American latino population?

Will they want to buy and wear some English guy's jersey? Or are they trying to attract kids from the 'burbs (something that has limited success)?

Beckham is popular everywhere. The guy showed up in China to speek and drew a crowd of damn near 70K. The same occurs in South America. He also speeks Spanish, so he'll do an interview or two on Telemundo and the crowd will love him.

The man is a marketing machine. Where he goes people follow. Being a Brit won't matter.

He will sell hundreds of thousands of LA Galaxy kits all around the world. That is not an exaggeration. If the kits of other teams become fashionable in this country or around the world, Adidas will have more than made back its investment.

Will the league ever crack the big 3 team sports in America? No. But he brings a lot of juice to the league. The first game of the Becks carnival in every city will sell out.

Soccer won't crack the Big 3, but this could propel it past hockey for good, or at least for a while. And Beckham is almost as marketable or maybe even more marketable worldwide than Jordan was. When he comes to town, the local MLS team will go from bottom of the front or an inside story to being the sports package if not being on A-1, which I bet happens in a lot of places. He brings the league more exposure than anything that's come before. The only thing that could compare would be a World Cup win, and that ain't happening and even if it did, Becks would probably still sell more tickets and get more press. He's popular everywhere - Latin America, Asia, Europe, Africa. Frigging British kids in love with Becks (there still are some) will be wearing Galaxy gear. And with Adidas picking up most of the tab, this is well worth the money from MLS.

And, yes, Cadet, Nike sucks. Don't change that they've gotten a lot of kids wearing their boots. <Former soccer player who still wears Adidas>

And since you ladies posted David Beckham, I'll post some Posh Beckham for the guys:

Agreed. There is not much I find attractive about her. Have you seen a shot of her where she shows her legs? Ewwwww. The Olson twins have more (natural) curves than her. She's just plain weird looking.

Maybe a daily dose of In-and-Out burgers will put some meat on her bones.

Not saying I wouldn't hit it; she just has blatantly fake breasteses.
