No. The Big Ten will always stay the Big Ten; at worst, it can go back to its chartered name of the Western Conference.

In recognition of my 5,000th post, I second your sentiment, Bubbler.

Roll up the sleeves and step outside. The Big 12 has called Missouri's and Nebraska's bluff.

Oh no, just when Oakland was getting ready to dominate the Summit League for years to come...

(A Summit-Horizon merger would make sense in some ways, but Detroit Mercy is terrified of being in the same conference with Oakland.)

Yeah but ISU owns the Sioux City-Council Bluffs market.

With one team west of the Mississippi (not counting Minnesota), that makes as much sense as calling it the Big ten and having 11 teams.
The Big Ten: Celebrating more than a century of stupid conference names.

    I *really* don't think it's a bluff. At least on Nebraska's part.

Not necessarily. Since the Big 10 was formed in the time of Lewis and Clark, nothing existed west of the Mississippi. Hence, the Western Conference; not to be confused with the Western Amateur golf tourney, held in Benton Harbor...

    Or?

Beebe gonna toss them at 5:01 for non-compliance?

If Nebraska does anything other than pledge (and probably sign a contract) indicating an intention to be a Big 12 school forever (if not longer), Texas and the B12South gang (minus Baylor, plus Colorado) wish them well and then go on their merry way and form the Pac16.

Kansas, KState, IState and Baylor (and quite possibly Missouri) are left with their dicks in their hands.

edit: just read that the texislature might force the Pac10 to take Baylor if it wants Texas and friends. So you can add Colorado to the list of teams that might be getting the gasface.
