Baseball exec: Reduce games to seven innings

Discussion in 'Sports and News' started by Dick Whitman, Apr 8, 2014.

  1. Yes.
This isn't an issue with the NFL where commercial interruptions are the problem. In MLB the issues are tied to the speed of the game itself.

I like the old George Carlin suggestion.

"The pitcher hits the batter, batter is out..."

    Steeeeve Perry! Ohhhhhhhh Sherrie!

I was a senior in high school when that movie came out. I used to pull the "scratching the crotch" psych-out during free throws at basketball practice.

NFL games now take about 30 minutes longer than they used to as well, and it's not all because of the commercials.

Keep the batters in the box, make the pitcher throw that ball, and limit warmups and you would easily shave 15 minutes off each MLB game. Unfortunately, the two-minute commercial break between every half-inning isn't going away.

Check the box scores from the final games of the season, when the players from non-contending teams are ready to go home. The games move very briskly. Players can play fast if they want to, or have an incentive to.

This had to be a David Samson idea. He's the one who said his top priority was shortening Marlins games. (Something we can all get behind.)

Any idea this ingenius, the author should own it, right? So we can see him as a visionary?

Yeah, they cut off beer sales after the 7th inning anyway, so it's not like there'd be a ton of lost revenue for the teams.

Not that any of this is happening, but you can imagine how the reduced roster sizes would go over with the MLBPA.

You forgot the randomly placed land mines in the outfield. ;)
