"Gotta Keep a Runnin'" by The Godz is a first ballot lock.

    I can't see enough I can't feel enough
I can't do enough in one damn day
I'm gonna lose you baby I'm gonna use you baby
I don't care what you say
I'm gonna burn right up like a two dollar pistol
I like a rocket shot to the sun
    I'm alive and I'm a jiving I'm a passing you by
    I can't stop for anyone
I gotta live my life I can't stop for you

Gotta keep a runnin' gotta keep a runnin'
goodbye baby I'm a leaving you
Gotta keep a runnin' gotta keep a runnin'
    Gotta keep a runnin'

I've got to see the land in a traveling band
I've got rock and a roll with you
I'm gonna make a little money make a little honey
    make my connections too

I'm gonna brun right up like a two dollar pistol
I like a rocket shot to the sun
    I'm alive and I'm a jiving I'm a passing you by
    I can't stop for anyone
I gotta live my life can't stop for you

Gotta keep a runnin' gotta keep a runnin'
goodbye baby I'm a leaving you
Gotta keep a runnin' gotta keep a runnin'
Gotta keep a runnin' gotta keep a runnin'
    Godz rock and roll

    (SPOKEN WORD SECTION)

    Now dig up ya'll
Now we're stoned to the bone, hot and sweaty
Look at us, we're everything your parents ever warned you about
They think we're all junkies, but everybody's some kind of junkie
There's money junkies, booze junkies, dope junkies, sex junkies,
And there's one thing they can't understand , all of us, you and I, we're Godz , and Godz are rock and roll junkies
Now every night we get into a different town
Every night we get high, every night we rock and roll
Every night we go crazy and we know we're killing ourselves, but it feels so... good
They try to tell us rock and roll is dead , but Godz rock and roll ain't dead
Rock and roll is why we're all here
Rock and roll is why we got long hair and get high
Rock and roll is why we dress the way we do
Rock and roll has turned us into something that they can't stand, but rock and roll has created us
Rock and roll has made us into machines
    We can't see straight
    We can't think straight
    We can't hear straight
We can't feel nothing , got no heart and soul, but we're Godz
And someday there'll be thousands of us, thousands of Godz, thousands of machines
More of us than there is of them, they can't stop the Godz rock and roll machine, stop the machine......machine
The Godz are rock and roll machines
No hearts but at least we're machines
The Godz are rock and roll machines

    (END OF SPOKEN WORD SECTION)

The Godz are rock and roll machines!
The Godz are rock and roll machines!
The Godz are rock and roll machines!
The Godz are rock and roll machines!
The Godz are rock and roll machines!
The Godz are rock and roll machines!
The Godz are rock and roll machines!

Damn, Loverboy was my No. 1 draft pick.

"You wanna piece of my heart? You better start from the start."
"You wanna be in the show? C'mon baby let's go!!!!"

I'd never go so far as to call Beatles lyrics bad, but "I Want You (She's So Heavy)" is a 7-minute song with 12 different words:

    1. I
    2. Want
    3. You
    4. So
    5. Bad
    6. It's
    7. Driving
    8. Me
    9. Mad
    10. She's
    11. So
    12. Heavy

My all-time worst single line, however, has to be from Bon Jovi's "Bed of Roses":

"I wanna be just as close as, the Holy Ghost is."

The sad thing is that this is probably the only Journey song I like...

    Anyway you want it
That's the way you need it
    Anyway you want it

    She loves to laugh
    She loves to sing
    She does everything
    She loves to move
    She loves to groove
She loves a lot of things

    Ooh, all night, all night
    Oh, every night
    So hold tight, hold tight
    Ooh baby, hold tight

    Oh, she said
    Anyway you want it
That's the way you need it
    Anyway you want it
She said, Anyway you want it
That's the way you need it
    Anyway you want it

    I was alone
    I never knew
    What good love could do
    Ooh, then we touched
    Then we sang
    About a lot of things

    Ooh, all night, all night
    Oh, every night
    So hold tight, hold tight
    Ooh baby, hold tight

    Oh, she said,
    Anyway you want it
That's the way you need it
    Anyway you want it
She said, Anyway you want it
That's the way you need it
    Anyway you want it

    She said, Hold on
Hold on, hold on, hold on, hold on
Hold on, hold on, hold on, baby

    Oh, she said,
    Anyway you want it
That's the way you need it
    Anyway you want it
    Anyway you want it
That's the way you need it
    Anyway you want it

    Oh, she said,
    Anyway you want it
That's the way you need it
    Anyway you want it
    Anyway you want it
That's the way you need it
    Anyway you want it

    Anyway you want it
That's the way you need it
    Anyway you want it
    Anyway you want it
That's the way you need it
    Anyway you want it

    Anyway you want it
That's the way you need it
    Anyway you want it
    Anyway you want it
That's the way you need it
    Anyway you want it

    Anyway you want it
That's the way you need it
    Anyway you want it

On the first part of the journey
I was looking at all the life
There were plants and birds and rocks and things
There was sand and hills and rings
The first thing I met was a fly with a buzz
And the sky with no clouds
The heat was hot and the ground was dry
But the air was full of sound

I've been through the desert on a horse with no name
It felt good to be out of the rain
In the desert you can remember your name
'Cause there ain't no one for to give you no pain

We come from the land of the ice and snow,
From the midnight sun where the hot springs blow.
    The hammer of the gods,
Will drive our ships to new lands,
To fight the horde singing and crying:
    "Valhalla I am coming!"

    On we sweep,
    With thrashing oar.
Our only goal will be the western shore.

We come from the land of the ice and snow,
From the midnight sun where the hot springs blow.
    Sultry fields of green,
    Whispered tales of lore,
Of how we calmed the tides of war,
    We are your overlords.

    On we sweep,
    With thrashing oar.
Our only goal will be the western shore.

So now you'd better stop and rebuild all your ruins,
For peace and trust can win the day despite all your losing.

Kurt Cobain wrote some excellent songs, which makes it even more disappointing that this deodorant ad became his lasting masterstroke:

Load up on guns, bring your friends
It's fun to lose and to pretend
    She's overboard and self-assured
Oh, no, I know a dirty word

Hello, Hello, Hello, How Low (x3)
    Hello, Hello, Hello

With the lights out, it's less dangerous
Here we are now, entertain us
    I feel stupid and contagious
Here we are now, entertain us

    A mulatto
    An albino
    A mosquito
    My libido
    Yeah

    Hey... Yay

I'm worse at what I do best
And for this gift I feel blessed
Our little group (tribe) has always been
And always will until the end

Hello, Hello, Hello, How Low (x3)
    Hello, Hello, Hello

With the lights out, it's less dangerous
Here we are now, entertain us
    I feel stupid and contagious
Here we are now, entertain us

    A mulatto
    An albino
    A mosquito
    My libido
    Yeah

    Hey... Yay

    (Guitar solo)

And I forget just why I taste
Oh, yeah, I guess it makes me smile
I found it hard, it's hard to find
    Oh well, whatever, nevermind

Hello, Hello, Hello, How Low (x3)
    Hello, Hello, Hello

With the lights out, it's less dangerous
Here we are now, entertain us
    I feel stupid and contagious
Here we are now, entertain us

    A mulatto
    An albino
    A mosquito
    My libido

    Yeah a denial
    A denial! (x9)

I'm a big fan of KISS, but let's face it, they didn't rise to fame on their insightful lyrics.

    A few examples:

    "Little lady, can't you see
You're so young and so much different than I
    I'm 93, you're sixteen
Can't you see I'm goin' blind"

    — "Goin' Blind," off Hotter than Hell. This one earns bonus points for, apparently, inspiring "I Think I'm Going Bald" by Rush.

    "You're sittin' in your seat
And then you stand and clutch your breast
Our music drives you wild along with the rest

You watch me singing this song
You see what my mouth can do
And you wish you were the one I was doing it to

And you watch me playin' guitar
And you feel what my fingers can do
And you wish you were the one I was doing it to
    Well, listen

    You've got great expectations
    You've got great expectations
    "

    — "Great Expectations," off their best album, "Destroyer." Somewhere Charles Dickens cringes.

Finally, a subtle suggestion of love from Paul, Gene and company:

"I got nasty habits, it's a fine line,
so many girls and so little time
When love rears its head, I wanna get on your case
Ooh baby, wanna put my log in your fireplace,
maybe baby, you wanna get played"

    — "Burn Bitch Burn," off "Animalize"

Is this love that I'm feeling?
Is this the love that I've been searching for?
Is this love or am I dreaming?
This must be love -- 'cause it's really got a hold on me
    A hold on me ...

Actually, those are phenomenal rock'n'roll lyrics. Simple and to the point, like they're supposed to be.

And, of course, Ringo didn't write the song. He covered it in 1974.

The lyrics and music for “You’re Sixteen (You’re Beautiful, and You’re Mine)” were penned by Robert and Richard Sherman, and first released as a single by Johnny Burnette in 1960:

Boo! That's the one Steve Miller-penned song I do like. Perfect stoner ethos.

But here's a stoner song (or a song likely written and recorded when stoned) that is putrid.

    We're so sorry, Uncle Albert,
We're so sorry if we caused you any pain.
    We're so sorry Uncle Albert,
But there's no one left at home
And I believe I'm gonna rain.
We're so sorry but we haven't heard a thing all day.
    We're so sorry, Uncle Albert.
But if anything should happen well be sure to give a ring.

    We're so sorry, Uncle Albert,
But we haven't done a bloody thing all day.
    We're so sorry, Uncle Albert,
But the kettles on the boil and we're so easily called away.

    Hands across the water. (Water)
    Heads across the sky.
    Hands across the water. (Water)
    Heads across the sky.

    Admiral Halsey notified me,
He had to have a berth or he couldn't get to sea.
I had another look and I had a cup of tea and butter pie.

    Butter Pie?
The Butter wouldn't melt so I put it in the pie.

    Hands across the water. (Water)
    Heads across the sky.
    Hands across the water. (Water)
    Heads across the sky.

Live a little be a gypsy, get around. (Get around)
Get your feet up off the ground,
    Live a little, get around.
Live a little be a gypsy, get around. (Get around)
Get your feet up off the ground,
    Live a little, get around

    Hands across the water. (Water)
    Heads across the sky.
    Hand across the water. (Water)
    Heads across the sky.
