August 18th Can't Come Soon Enough. . . The Snakes Are Coming

Yes, we are just a week away from the entertainment highlight of the season (or maybe even the decade).

The debut of Snakes On A Plane. . . the picture that I fully expect to be included among the nominees for 2006 Best Picture at the Academy Awards.

I have seen the trailer on TV a number of times over the last two weeks and get a chill down my spine when Samuel L. Jackson says, in an obviously edited version, "I hate these motherfucking snakes on this motherfucking plane."  It is a line that is sure to go down in cinema history, reminding me when Rhett Butler uttered, "Frankly my dear, I don't give a damn."

I have my Fruit Rollups and I have scheduled a motherfucking haircut so I am ready to go.  I can only hope that some theater is going to have a midnight showing somewhere.

Snakes.  On a Plane.  I don't know how Spielberg didn't think of the premise first.

Anyone remember that list that was accidently published several years ago with, I believe it was the AP's sports phone contact list? Someone who still has that thing should get on the Snakes on a Plane Web site and send those phone numbers the Samuel L. Jackson promotional phone call.

"Hello, Pete (Rose). This is Samuel L. Jackson..."

I think it'd be funny.

At great personal risk I sent my wife a Samuel L. Jackson voicemail.

She was laughing so hard that she was nearly in tears when she called to tell me she got it.

 

Just checked my local movie listings.

Snakes is opening across Toronto with one showing at 10:00 p.m. Thursday, August 17 in about 30 movieplexes.

Anybody else here got show times like that?

 

I see a triple-figure-page thread when this comes out.

 

It would be a helluva drive, but if I leave soon, I can get there for it.
