What's with that slacker Campbell and his three straight pars?

So is Furyk, back-to-back birdies at 15 and 16.

Mickelson just bogeyed 16, +1 for the day.

Four straight birds for Furyk; he leads by himself at -6 through 17.

Dave Perkins of the Star has good story about how the Masters is basically recession-proof, partially because they haven't sold their soul to Corporate America.

There's also one great anecdote about its very wealthy members.

One day, a new member was a little too loud in the card room, boasting about his fortune until the old-timer asked him, politely, how much he was worth. "About $93 million," the newbie said, which caused the veteran to nudge a deck of cards across the table and ask him if he wanted to cut for all of it.

I've always pegged The Masters as the most overrated sports event every year. Check out the Real Clear Sports website for a smattering of opinion on the thing. It is comforting each year to see the same stuff shot from the same camera angles, hear the same music etc, that you did 10 and 20 years ago. But the unctousness of the announcers (looks like Tirico may attempt to squeeze four rounds of ooze and "patron" references into two days) is still as off-putting as it ever was.
OMG - a golfer just said "bastard" - at Augusta? Doesn't that require a caning?

"Let them get away with it?"

CBS needs the Masters a fuck of a lot more than the Masters needs CBS.

Personally, I think it's highly refreshing that there is still at least one high-profile sporting event where the TV networks don't call the shots.

Ask The Travelers and Cadillac, they're not sponsoring this year. Now we get IBM, ExxonMobil and ATT.

2J, holding them up as a beacon is exactly what makes the Hootie Johnsons of the world believe their feces do not emit an unpleasant odor.

How they comin' along with that female membership drive? ;)
