Athletes who lose their luster after they retire

I'll add Barry Sanders, if only because he's seemingly fallen off the face of the earth.

 

Except Maradona has lost most of that weight and is about to be named coach of Argentina's national team.

Sticking with soccer, I'll nominate Paul Gascoigne. Legendary English soccer player, bit of a John Daly type who like the booze, but was always forgiven because of his talent.

Now he's not playing, and is cracking up -- He got sanctioned to a mental hospital for a while -- it's just incredibly sad to see. He'll never get out of the public light in Britain, and that could be a very bad thing.
