The Clinton (Iowa) Herald, a six-day-a-week newspaper, is seeking applications for an Assistant Sports Editor in the newsroom.

Clinton sits on the Mississippi River and features many outdoor activities. Subscriptions continue to circulate in Iowa and Illinois.

Along with the Sports Editor, the Assistant Sports Editor is responsible for gathering and editing daily content for our Sports section and our website. That content includes stories, photos and videos. The Clinton Herald does employ a full-time photographer, but some photography work is required.

Coverage area includes high school sports, as well as a Class A Seattle Mariners minor-league baseball team, the Clinton LumberKings. Sharp writing and AP style knowledge are a must, and multimedia experience is a plus. The Clinton Herald has won several awards in recent years in state, regional and national contests.

The Clinton Herald publishes in the afternoon Monday through Friday and on Saturday morning.

Submit resume, cover letter and examples of your work to Associate Editor Scott Levine at scottlevine@clintonherald.com.

The Clinton Herald is an equal opportunity employer.

Clinton, IA, still warrants a two-man sports desk? Times are better than I thought.

There's quite a bit that happens in Clinton, sports wise. Minor Leagues, right around a dozen high schools or more -- it would be quite a chore for one person to cover, especially when teams make it to state and during state wrestling/track. No photographer on staff either.

Did Jerry Dahl retire/leave? He'd been there forever. Really nice guy, too.

He left like seven years ago. But yes, a great guy and an institution in Clinton.

There actually is a photog on staff, just not 100% sports.
