    Assistant Sports Editor - Antelope Valley Press

    Assist the sports editor in producing the sports section and managing staff. Supervisory position with staff of half-dozen young and able reporters. Ability to edit copy and produce pages on deadline essential. Working with sports editor to achieve goals with a high bar set. Experience as a copy editor or page designer necessary. The Valley Press is a suburban community daily in north Los Angeles County, with an hour or so access to beaches, mountains and Los Angeles attractions.     What the hell happened to Jay Heater, who was hired as SE last September? According to the website, Darren Vaughan, who was ASE, is the new SE.

    It seems like as if management of the paper likes to low-ball and dick around with job candidates.

    Jay left last week for a SE job in Indiana. Darren has been here a few years and is now in charge. We're looking to fill his old spot.
