    Unbelievably sad news.

My wife and the folks in her office - working opposite of Kennedy and his staff on education stuff - are pretty shaken up. I am too.

Glioblastoma is the most common type of malignant brain tumor in adults but other types of glioma do exist. If it is a glioblastoma, longterm survival rates are poor, with most people dying within 3 years.

Cancer is an unfair disease causing pain and suffering to patients, family and friends. Brain tumors are especially evil. They kill and they change the personality of the patient, adding more to the suffering.

I read the AP story, and it says that survival rates are anywhere from less than a year to as long as five years. Given his age, it doesn't sound good. But he'll definitely get the best treatment.

It's sad to have a hero of mine go through this. But it's sad to imagine anyone having to do so.

Why? They don't even know yet what treatment he'll have or his prognosis.

I met Ted Kennedy once, on the day Paul Wellstone died. And Teddy was supposed to be on that plane.

He cried. And so did I.

He has endured more hardship in this lifetime than anyone I can think of.

I don't think that makes any coherent point. I just hope he makes it.

Terrible news. As Zeke said, it's hard to imagine anyone else enduring the pain Kennedy has endured for three-quarters of a century.

I hope this thread stays on track and remains unlocked...

    Zeke, just curious.

Why was Sen. Kennedy supposed to be on Wellstone's plane? Wellstone was on the Range to attend (state) Rep. Rukavina's father's funeral.

That said, prayers for Sen. Kennedy and his family. Cancer is awful.
