AP sports writer in KC

Discussion in 'Journalism Jobs' started by Murray present, Aug 29, 2007.

  1. This is a good gig and will likely be filled by another AP writer. Just a guess.

Don't worry about that. If you're interested, just send your stuff. Not everyone in AP came from a major metro or mid-major.

Tucker has been there for decades, and he's very well known and well respected by almost every source you'll come across. He's a good guy, too, and that will help whoever is transitioning into this job.

Anyone know what Brisedine's plans are?

    why would non-member papers complain?

  5. No way does this not go to somebody already with AP.

  6. I'm guessing somewhere around 50K.

I'm a bit familiar with this posting and the folks in KC. As mentioned, it will almost certainly go to someone from within AP because they need to fill it quickly and that person needs to hit the ground running. Hard to do coming from a newspaper. Also, word of caution to those who do apply -- it's only about 25 percent sports, if that. The rest of the time is news, working the desk, etc. If you want to focus on sports, this one might not be a great fit.

  8. If you want to read through the CBA, all the salaries are posted here.

As I recall, about 5 years of daily experience will get you about $62k.

Yeah? From the looks of it, most of them came from a pup job at AP.

  10. How the heck do you even apply for this? It says paste resume and salary requirements into something. No clips? No cover letter? Seems odd.

Who cares about how the sports teams are doing?

    Two words: Arthur Bryant's.

That alone sells KC. Good luck to whoever gets this.
