    95004664 -- Newsperson

The Associated Press seeks a newsperson for its Pakistan bureau in Islamabad.

The position reports to the Islamabad chief of bureau and helps cover news in Pakistan, including the Pakistani role in the Afghan War. Working with the news director for Afghanistan-Pakistan and the Middle East regional headquarters in Cairo, Egypt, the position helps plan, direct, and execute the AP's spot and enterprise news report in all formats in Pakistan, including the country's role in terrorism, social trends, natural disasters, regional politics and the Afghan War. He/she ensures that AP aggressively pursues breaking news; provides agenda-setting coverage of complex social, economic and geopolitical issues; identifies, develops and owns other key issues; and consistently contributes to shaping distinctive, memorable enterprise, accountability and investigative journalism for an international audience. He/she must be able to work collegially within a reporting team, must be able to work effectively with colleagues of different cultures, religions and nationalities, and must display a keen interest in source development within the Pakistani and international communities. The successful candidate must be able to work across departments and formats to quickly address and anticipate all of AP’s news needs.

    QUALIFICATONS:

Candidates must be able to live and work in an environment where a security threat is ever present and where public opinion may be hostile to his or her country. Candidates must be prepared to work as required in Afghanistan.

See the AP jobs website for details.

  2. Hmmm....living with my ex-girlfriend does qualify as once living in an environment where my security was threatened. Public opinion on me (on both sides of the issue) was pretty hostile once we broke up. Hell, this may be a vacation.....
