    Weekend News Writer/Editor/Producer

    Job Duration: Full Time
    Job Location: New York, NY or Dulles, VA

    AOL News seeks a weekend news writer/editor/producer to create interactive, multimedia news experiences for millions of viewers daily. The full-time position is 4 days a week, Thursday through Sunday, from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. The location is New York or Dulles, Va.

    Job responsibilities:

    - Select stories and publish articles for news.aol.com and other current and future AOL News properties

    - Craft promotions for news stories on the aol.com main screen

    - Write and edit articles

    - Build content modules for article pages, which may include any of the following and more: writing headlines, captions and other display copy; coordinating photos; creating polls, photo galleries and quizzes

    - Check pages for compliance with AP style, correct grammar and punctuation, accuracy, clarity, punch and adherence to documented AOL News style and guidelines

    - Work with outside sources to report stories and acquire assets as needed

    - Work with freelance writers and editors

    - Fill in on other shifts occasionally as needed

    Background and skills:

    - Minimum 5 years news experience

    - Solid news judgment

    - Excellent headline writing and photo selection

    - Attention to detail, style, spelling and grammar

    - Ability to work quickly under pressure and deadline, balancing multiple tasks

    - Knowledge of, or ability to learn, basic HTML and work with proprietary publishing tools

    - Knowledge of current events and popular culture

    - Social media savvy

    - Strong team player

    - Passion for the online medium

    - Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience
