Anybody vacationed in N.O. post-Katrina?

I was there pre-Katrina. Just two months before, but we went to a restaurant that was serving a peanut butter burger. My friend said it wasn't a touristy bar, but one mostly local college kids went to. I refused to eat the peanut butter burger, but the girl I went down there with said it was fantastic. Our tour guide/friend said he and his friends would order it after a long night of drinking. Anyone know what the bar I'm talking about is?

Is it really? I would have thought I could remember a name like that. I had a blast in New Orleans. One of the best places we went was one of the gay bars. Stayed until 6 a.m. and could barely walk when we left, but we could go out without getting hit on, despite my female friends attempts to turn a gay man straight.

There might be other places that make it, but Yo Mama's is the one I know about.

That sounds right now that I think about it. I had the bbq bacon cheeseburger myself. I'm not a big fan of peanut butter with anything but jelly.

When I was younger, we went hiking in Colorado and my parents made something called Gado Gado spaghetti by the campfire. It is made with noodles, soy sauce and peanut butter. A pretty thai dish. I've not been a big peanut butter fan since.

I doubt I'd be too keen on a peanut butter hamburger. However, I know peanut butter-based barbecue sauces that pretty dang good.

By the way, earlier today I had the best restaurant cornbread ever at Rowdy's in Vicksburg. My week of vacation has started out well.

Was in NO earlier this year. As noted, the tourist areas are basically fine, although the economic impact is hard to miss with all the boarded up storefronts in the blocks near Canal Street on the other side from the Quarter. Go on one of the tours. See places like Chalmette - it will make you incredibly angry and frustrated at the incompetence on every level that could let something like this happen. There are still not signs of meaningful progress in so many places two years later.

The first thought that came to mind when I saw all the destruction was 10 years. It's going to take about 10 years to get that city close to where it was. All you have to do is think about how long it takes to build one house and then multiply it by XXXXXX. That combined with where do you house all the workers to rebuild the city?

Best restaurant in New Orleans is Dookie Chase. I don't know if it has reopened but if it has, I strongly suggest you go there with a hearty appetite. You will be pleased.

    Sometimes, the one-liners write themselves.

(And for the record, I agree.)

Only restaurant I have ever been to where I was escorted from the parking lot to the restaurant, from the restaurant to my vehicle.

I highly recommend Jacques Imo's. Go in there, put your name on the list, then go a couple of doors down to the Maple Leaf and drink beers 'til they come get you. Get the crawfish cheesecake appetizer. Unbelievably good.
