Another L.A. Times editor hits the road

    It's either a source of interest to me, or severely depressing, that Davan Maharaj was a metro reporter in the Orange County Edition while I was still there, and he has risen to this spot since then -- coming up on 20 years.

    Let's not hold St. Dean up as a newsroom paragon; people in sports would be the first ones to tell you his attitude toward that department would be charitably described as "benign neglect."

    Years ago during my young, part-time college days, Russ Stanton was a business writer at the Press-Enterprise. Played on a company softball team with him and he couldn't have been nicer to me. Hard to see what the pressure of that job could do to someone like that.
