I was very surprised to learn how many of my fellow reporters and working other gigs to make ends meet. Some are delivering groceries. A few are delivering pizzas. One is a short order cook. Has it gotten that bad and if so, what are some other partime gigs that people are doing?

I was going to substitute teach, but by the time I got around to applying and they got around to finishing the application, I left. I think that's a pretty good gig for a small town sportswriter starting out, because it's nigh impossible to get a consistent night job with your hours. That, or working at a gym, clothing store, etc.

I do temp work right now to try to pay bills, but I want to write. It's tough once out of college, and I have exp. just like a lot of you all.

While working the desk, I used to wait tables at a local joint. ... Extra $150-200 (four lunches) a week sure as hell helped out.

Boots, you silly guy, it's not just journalists.

School teachers, police officers, grocery store clerks and construction workers do extra work on the side as well.

there have been times when I had four jobs.
