I'm guessing Simmons knows that Nic Cage was supposed to get this role. I read in Rolling Stone or EW that he got the part after the studio balked on Rourke and then the director changed the budget so he could do it the way he wanted, with Rourke.

I might try to catch this at a matinee.

Not exactly a date movie with the wife.

If the Danny Glover playing Red story is true... well that just amazes me especially when I remember that it was Red narrating the movie.

Artie Lange told a good story about auditioning for this movie.

    Yeah, Stern really sucks. [/crossthread]

  7. Oh, my.
A lazy comparison to sports figures. A out-of-the-ass Nicolas Cage reference. "Nic Cage faces." Oooh, a clever twist of the "Danny Ainge face," or whatever "face" came out of the tiny bag of tricks last week.

    Goddamn.
Usually, you have to go to the college movie blogs for insights like that.

If there is a better critic than Anthony Lane working today, maybe it's Roger Ebert. But I don't think so.

  9. Well, he's certainly no Bill Simmons.

My favorite movie critics are Ebert and Peter Travers.
