We had the ABA in its inaugural season here last year. Wolff will soon find out exactly what he has gotten involved with, if he doesn't already know. Should get plenty of great material.

ABA's been kicking around for several years now. I assume you meant last year was the first year for your team, not the league. Anyway, league makes the D-League, CBA, and even USBL look downright polished.

We played Rutland RFC. The team has its own privately owned field in West Rutland on Marble Street. The after party was at Jilly's, but I got lost on the way there and decided to just go home.

BURLINGTON, Vt. (AP) - A suspect in the case of a University of Vermont senior found dead nearly a week after vanishing was being held without bail on unrelated charges Saturday while an autopsy was performed on the victim.

The autopsy, by medical examiner Dr. Stephen Adams, was ongoing Saturday but results won't be released this weekend, according to police Lt. Kathleen Stubbing. Police aren't saying what killed Michelle Gardner-Quinn, when she died or what condition her body was in when hikers found it on the edge of a rocky ravine leading into the Huntington Gorge on Friday.

It will likely be at least a week before any charges can be brought in the case, according to Stubbing.

Brian L. Rooney, a 36-year-old construction worker from Richmond, was arrested Friday on sex charges that arose during the investigation into Gardner-Quinn's disappearance but unrelated to her.

Rooney, who had no previous connection to the woman, lent her his cell phone after hers ran out of charge on Oct. 7 after a night with friends. She was unable to reach a second group of friends and an exterior surveillance camera on a jewelry store captured images of the two walking up Main Street about 2:34 a.m. Gardner-Quinn vanished after that.

When she failed to make a dinner date with her parents later Saturday, she was reported missing.

Rooney, who hasn't been charged in her disappearance, will be arraigned Monday on the sex charges _ sexual assault and lewd and lascivious conduct with a child.

Rooney was seen with cuts on his hands days later when he stopped in at Walt's Game Room, a candy store and pool parlor in Winooski where he was a regular customer, owner John Barton said Saturday.

It was either Monday or Wednesday night, Barton said.

"He looked very down and depressed," said Barton, who asked Rooney about police activity at the Malletts Bay Avenue house he was staying at.

Barton noticed what he said were two or three cuts on Rooney's right hand, but thought they may have been suffered on the job because they were scabbed over.

"He popped in to get a soda. I asked him what the deal was with the FBI and police and everything going around. He said he was the guy who had lent the missing girl his cell phone. He basically said `I was walking up the street with her and when I got halfway up she went one way and I went the other and I don't remember anything after that.'"

Neither Stubbing nor Police Chief Thomas Tremblay would comment on the report Rooney had cuts on him, or give any new details about the investigation. They again appealed for help from anyone who may have seen Rooney or his red Jeep Grand Cherokee _ photos of which were released by police Thursday _ between early Saturday and midmorning Monday.

"A lot of the things we're holding onto are things only us or the other person responsible would know about," Tremblay said.
